The Site

The 0.52 hectare, former Brett Oils site sits on the south bank of the River Tyne, off Pipewellgate on Gateshead Quayside. The site is allocated by Gateshead Council in the Core Strategy and Urban Core Plan as a development opportunity site for a mixed-use development. The site provides views across the River Tyne and the landmark bridges whilst also providing easy access to both Newcastle City Centre and Gateshead Town Centre. The site presents a key opportunity to bring forward a high quality mixed-use development to support the regeneration along the River Tyne.

The Proposal

High Street Group propose to bring the site forward for a mixed-use development to include: office space; private-rented sector residential accommodation; flexible ground floor space, which could accommodate a mixture of uses such as office, leisure, retail and/or café and restaurant use; and public realm.
